We are Birr, born and bred. The County Arms has been at the heart of the community in Birr for more than 60 years, sharing many of life’s most memorable occasions with local families and those in our surrounding villages and towns.
At the County Arms, we are immensely proud of Birr and all that our beautiful heritage town has to offer. Our people are open, welcoming, and friendly, we are diverse and inclusive, a town that is home to many generations of families, as well as newcomers of all nationalities who have made their home here in more recent times. We believe that Birr is a wonderful place to live, work and visit. In promoting the County Arms as a great place to stay, it is equally important that we shine a light on Birr - our place, our people, and our communities.
Great places are built on grassroots community activism - neighbours helping neighbours, old communities welcoming and integrating with new communities, respect and care for shared public spaces, businesses uplifting each other, actively supporting local events and organisations, demonstrating empathy for those facing challenges in their lives and showing generosity towards the marginalised in our community.
At the County Arms, we are proud to support local causes. Thanks to the efforts of our incredible team and the generosity of our owners, we have raised funds and contributed work time to many local charities including Offaly Down Syndrome, the local St. Vincent De Paul, Breast Cancer Awareness and more. We do this through in-house sponsored activities, hosting events and donating prizes, as well as committing our own time and skills to various local and national fundraising efforts.
We are committed to working with local events, organisations, groups, and festivals, investing in their valuable work which brings joy, entertainment, interest, colour and activity to the streets and spaces of Birr and our surrounding neighbourhoods. These kinds of public engagements and activities enliven Birr and create focal points for locals and visitors alike.
At the County Arms, we recognise the positive impact these efforts have in showcasing Birr to local, national, and international audiences, as well as the opportunities they create for our own business. Our belief is that by supporting these happenings, be it through financial or benefit in kind investment, we are making a collective contribution to life in Birr, uplifting our place, our people, our communities, and our businesses and as a result, making Birr itself a desirable and interesting destination for visitors of all tastes and interests.
