Slieve Bloom Mountains
The Slieve Bloom mountains are amongst the oldest mountains in Europe and were once also the highest-on a clear day, you can actually see the high points of the four ancient provinces of Ireland. Forming a natural link between Laois and Offaly, they are set in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Filled with villages that still embrace traditional values where you’ll find people ready to take the time to talk and tell their stories including the legends of Fionn McCumhail and Na Fianna.
A trip to Slieve Bloom allows you to hike and horse ride, mountain bike and gold as well as enjoying the fabulous variety of activities and attractions on offer including, angling, and birdwatching and nearby castles and heritage sites.
If you’re a keen walker you’ll have 17 looped walks to choose from at Slieve Bloom and there are even organised walks on offer most weekends at a small fee – please note though that no dogs are allowed on these walks.
Of course, even if walking’s not your thing, you can enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your car as you drive along a selection of planned routes around this beautiful location before heading back to the County Arms for a relaxing drink or a welcome bite to eat.
